Bhubaneswar looks best when things are Spontaneous!

Bhubaneswar9.jpg
My mother and I have always had that soft corner for the very famous “Ikat sarees” of Odisha. It was just a regular Sunday morning, that my mother said that she felt like going out of Delhi. Anywhere out of Delhi. It was then that I proposed the plan of going to Bhubaneswar, go see some bxeautiful temples and buy lots of Ikat sarees.

I could have booked the flight tickets right away but we both missed traveling by train. Hence, I thought of taking a chance to book the train tickets in “ tatkal”. And voila! Next morning I got what I tried for. Two train tickets for Cuttack for the day after.

Upon reaching Cuttack, we checked into the hotel that I had already booked for us. It really seemed a nice hotel among all the hotels in Cuttack near the railway station. To my surprise, the rooms were extremely nice. Actually, the decor of the whole hotel was beautiful. The front desk was very helpful to guide through some nice touristic spots. My mother and I enjoyed The Lingaraja Temple of Bhubaneswar. The other temple that we found very beautiful was the Mukteshwar Temple. We were glad that the person at the front desk had arranged for our transportation too, which made our hopping from one place to another easy. After the two days touristic hopping, it was time for the ikat saree shopping, which we enjoyed the most.

Our three-day stay at this beautiful hotel, which was the Mango hotel was fabulous. It is one of the best hotels in Bhubaneswar, without any doubt.

Cantonment City of Bangalore

hotels in rajaji nagar
The word cantonment comes from a French word caton meaning corner or district. Each cantonment was therefore essentially a well-defined and clearly demarcated area which was kept for housing and administering troops. The British, after they had defeated Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore, in the fourth and final Anglo-Mysore war, had stationed their garrison at Seringapatnam, the capital city of the state of Mysore. The sultan had also maintained a fort in Bangalore which was the largest in the state and the EIC under the leadership of the brilliant general Lord Cornwallis had at first stormed into and razed to the ground this stronghold of Bangalore before they made their move in Seringapatnam.

After the fall of the Mysore sultan, the British shifted their cantonment from Seringapatnam to Bangalore owing to its pleasant climate. The presence of the Bangalore Cantonment attracted a large number of workers looking for employment opportunities from Tamil Nadu and other neighboring states of the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore. Bangalore quickly rose to become the largest city in the Kingdom of Mysore. In 1831, the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore was shifted from Mysore city to Bangalore. The story of the city from then on is one of constant and unflinching upward growth. Many posh localities have sprung up around the cantonment area and MG road has become the nerve center of the city. Many pubs, bars and hotels in Bangalore can be found near MG Road. There are many hotels in Rajaji Nagar area of the city as well.
