Nandi Hills: A must-visit place in rajaji nagar, Bangalore

Nandi Hills has been historically relevant for centuries in India and was known during the Chola Period. Now it has become an important tourist destination and the Prajwal Hotel sees many visitors throughout the year. Here are a few interesting things about the hills:
  • The Nandi Hills is most famous for the Nandidurga Fort built by Tipu Sultan. The fort had been considered impregnable and was a reputable fortress until it was conquered by the British in 1791 after a three weeks siege. Thereafter, it began to be used as a summer retreat by British officers to escape the scorching temperatures.
  • The Tipu Fort at Nandi Hills is undergoing development work under a project budgeted at over one crore rupees. There will also be a food court and a music stage built to house visitors during cultural programmes. A planetarium and a huge botanical garden are also in the plans.
  • Tourism is huge here, especially during the summer and hotels in Rajaji Nagar stay booked out. Some of the popular tourist spots include the summer palace and fort where Tipu Sultan stayed. The increase in visitors to the Nandi Hills has put considerable pressure on the environment here and pollution is a growing problem.
  • The Nandi Hills is of particular importance to horticulturists because of its pleasant climate that allows the growth of many different species of plants. Even during the British Raj, the area was often used as an experimental garden to study several plant species.

The Nandi Hills are fascinating for more than one reason. Besides its interesting history, it also has a wealth of natural beauty that makes it a top tourist destination.
