The Sayaji Baug, located on the banks of the River Vishwamitri was built in the year 1879 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III as a gift to his people. Earlier it was known as the Public Park.

It has the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, the Sarder Patel Planetarium, an aquarium and also a zoo called the Sayaji Baug Zoo. The toy train is favourite among the kids giving a tour of the whole garden in a 3.5km journey.
